Steve Leibig is a 1978 graduate of Lebanon High School. The decision to play trombone was easy since his Grandfather, his Father, and older brother Bruce all played trombone. There were trombones around the house he could blow on at an early age. Steve started playing with the Perseverance band in 1976. It was the Bicentennial year with lots of parades and concerts. After high school he attended a two-year trade school for electronics technology and moved to Baltimore in 1982 to work at Westinghouse Defense and Aerospace Systems Center. Having always kept up his musical interests, he was able to play in several Baltimore area jazz bands that rehearsed weekly and played gigs all year round. Lots of valuable experience was gained by playing along side some very good Baltimore musicians and band leaders. It was like a seven-year music camp. In 1989 Steve moved back to Lebanon to start a family with wife and Lebanon native Debbie. With two young children, it was difficult to find time for many things including music. As time moved on, time for personal interests slowly came back. He joined the Lebanon Big Swing Band in 2007 and has been leader since 2013. Steve presently works for Penn State Health doing radiation safety work and physics testing of diagnostic imaging equipment. He attends Church of the Good Shepherd and is part of the worship team band. Besides music, Steve plays tennis with Debbie, rides bicycle, operates his model railroad empire, and enjoys walking their three dogs (all of them at once).
